What is Counselling and Psychotherapy?
Sometimes we reach a point where difficulties in our personal life or work environment have a negative impact not only on our quality of life but also on our mental, physical or emotional wellbeing. Talking to someone with the necessary specialised training can give us support and assist us in identifying and resolving these problems.
In counselling, you will explore these difficulties in a warm and professional atmosphere. I will help you identify coping skills you might not be aware you have, or assist you in developing healthier coping mechanisms than those you currently employ. Through counselling you will learn to identify and address your own needs, achieve a better sense self-understanding, increase your level of self-acceptance and self-esteem – in short, you will discover how to regain control over your life rather than being defined by past experiences.
Any matter disclosed in your sessions will be treated as confidential. The only exceptions to this are situations where there may be serious concern regarding the safety of a client or person under the age of 18 years. In such cases, this will be discussed with you, in order to support you in the best way possible.
Generally, you can bring any issue into a session that is of importance to you. Some of the more common difficulties I work with are:
- Eating Disorders
- Self-Harm, Suicidal Behaviour
- Low Self-Esteem
- Anxiety & Stress
- Bereavement and Loss
- Family or relationship issues
- Long-term illnesses
